Shapes & Sizes

Here are my solar balloon designs:

These are the balloons that you can learn to make on this site. The easiest is probably the 5-ft tetroon, which requires only 4 bags and minimal cutting. It takes 30 min. or less to make.

The 9-foot tetroon takes 1-2 hours to build and the 10-foot takes 2-3. These are currently my largest balloons, and I frequently use a 10-foot tetroon for aerial photography.

The standard shape 8-ft balloon takes from 2 to 4 hours to make, and requires 16 bags. The miniature balloon can be made in 40 min. or less and is the smallest solar balloon I have flown.

The tube balloon can take any amount of time to make, depending on the amount of bags you are using. This balloon is easy to inflate - all you have to do is hold the mouth open and run into the wind. After twisting shut and securing the mouth, the sun will fully inflate it and it will be airborne within less than a few minutes.

Of course, there are endless possibilities for solar balloon shapes & sizes. These are just the basic designs I came up with as my interest in solar balloons grew. A good idea for you to try out is a UFO-shaped balloon, which could be a saucer or any alien-looking shape. It would definitely catch some attention!
