Found Balloons

When I release a solar balloon with a tag and it is found after landing, this is where I put the reports.

February 4, 2007

This balloon flew 230 miles and made the first multi-state flight, landing in Hayesville, NC. It wasn't found until a few days after the release.

Two balloons were released on December 27, 2006. One was found 40 miles away at dusk as it fell into a pond where some people were using remote control boats. They fished the balloon out using one of the boats and I got the email the same night.

The other balloon was found two days later, at 170 miles from its starting location. It was spotted lying in a field.

I released a tetroon on December 13 at 2:41 pm and nearly 2 hours later, I got a report via email. My balloon had been found about 35 miles southeast of its launch site. There is no knowing how high it went. The balloon traveled at an average of 18 mph. I was surprised at first that this balloon had been found so soon. I thought it wouldn't be found for at least a day.

Soon I will release a larger balloon, possibly a 9-foot tetroon, to gain more altitude and travel farther. When I construct it I will attach a message as usual and I will release it earlier in the day to allow longer travel time. Hopefully it will end up somewhere where it can be spotted easily. The location of the landing site usually is the difference between whether or not I will get a response.

If you have found one of my balloons and came to this site via the message, click here.
